FARO RevEng 2021 Introduces Automatic NURBS Surface Generation

Lake Mary, US – FARO®, a global leader of 3D measurement, imaging, and realization solutions for the 3D Metrology, AEC (Architecture, Engineering & Construction), and Public Safety Analytics markets, announced the release of FARO® RevEng™ Software 2021. It is the latest update to the company’s RevEng software platform, which now features automatic surfacing capabilities (NURBS), creating surfaces quickly directly from scanned point clouds and meshes. As the most affordable and fastest reverse engineering Scan-to-CAD software solution available, it helps users get work done faster by reducing data capture time and eliminating overlapping data points.

It is ideal for aftermarket design, replacement parts creation, new design iterations or additive manufacturing. A full network of curves and surface patches can be created with the click of a button, ready for immediate export into a CAD file by the Automatic NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline) Surfaces Creation Tool. Full control is also possible by customizing the surface patches in the sketch mode with its flexible control point placement, while curves are color-coded to quickly check surface continuity. The 3D point cloud capture allows users to create models that are up to 1.75X lighter with a grid management feature to obtain clean, light, and consistent point cloud data.

Additional RevEng 2021 upgrades also include Deviation Color Range for easy validation and review of critical areas, Info Panel for additional data, and Feature-reserving Remeshing for preserving sharp features as well as improving compatibility with downstream workflow and applications. Another feature that distinguishes this powerful software suite is the RevEng intuitive user interface. The setup, which displays all tools in a single location, allows simple manipulation and customization of a 3D object while also enabling the industry’s fastest cloud-to-CAD conversion, significantly improving workflow productivity.

Users can also import point cloud or mesh files from any source and repair the mesh using the software’s cutting-edge optimization tools, which automatically repair meshes up to 20X faster than current leading tools and improve smoothing effectiveness up to 1.5X faster. As a result, RevEng is software agnostic and can be paired with any inspection program, including customers working with other software products.

“Reverse engineering with RevEng is easier and faster than ever,” said John Chan, Software Product Marketing Manager, FARO Technologies. “Users can scan with a FARO ScanArm—paired with the optional 8-axis rotating platform to increase acquisition speed—to generate a mesh of the highest quality and quickly produce exportable CAD surfaces for machining, finite element analysis simulations or 3D modeling.”
