SCHWING Stetter India Launched Skill Training Program to Train 10,000 People

Chennai, India – SCHWING Stetter (India) Pvt Ltd, one of the country’s largest manufacturers of concreting, construction, and mining equipment, has launched its first Operator Skill Training Program at the Global Manufacturing Hub in Cheyyar. The intensive one-month course is accredited by IESC, affiliated to NSDC. The first training, consisting of two batches of 53 students, has been selected. These students will be taught how to operate three major products: boom pumps, self-loading concrete mixers, and excavators.

The company inaugurated its largest facility in the state, The Global Manufacturing Hub, in February 2021. The state-of-the-art 52-acre integrated facility comprising 50,000 sq mt of built-up area will now manufacture concrete boom pumps, stationary pumps, self-loading mixers, shotcrete pumps, excavators, wheel loaders, and motor graders. The Global Manufacturing Hub also houses a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for product concreting training. Partnered with the IESC Skill Council, the CoE includes a state-of-the-art, modernized training center to provide skills to youth from neighboring districts.

SCHWING Stetter is currently one of the largest factories in Cheyyar. The company has committed to skill and train 10,000 men and women in neighboring districts to make them employable. With the pandemic wreaking havoc on industries, individuals must be equipped with present skill sets to remain relevant in the industry. This exclusive training program will teach individuals how to approach heavy machinery correctly and become highly skilled operators. Candidates who complete this program’s training and certification can pursue rewarding careers in industries such as infrastructure, construction, and ready-mix concrete production.

The first batch of students includes 53 men, and the company intends to include women in future programs and is working hard to create a women-first environment at the Global Manufacturing Hub. In the future, the company intends to design short-term RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) approved by NSDC, courses that will assist operators and mechanics who have prior work experience in this industry but lack formal certification. Such candidates will be trained, assessed, and certified through RPL programs.

Elaborating on the necessity for such training programs, V G Sakthikumar, Managing Director, SCHWING Stetter India, said, “Over the past 20 years, we have successfully trained close to 14,000 plus individuals in handling concreting machinery. At our new facility, our focus has been on providing modernized training and empowering local residents in Cheyyar and nearby districts. We had the intention to start this training initiative immediately after the inauguration in the month of February 2021, but the pandemic proved to be a spoiler. Our goal to train 10,000 individuals is ambitious, which is definitely possible over the coming years.”
