Phoenix Contact’s Extension System for PLCnext Control Devices

Blomberg, Germany – Phoenix Contact’s open ecosystem PLCnext Technology offers a plug-in solution, in addition to being expandable via downloads of functions from the PLCnext Store. It is a left-alignable extension system that adds functions not contained in the standard performance spectrum to PLCnext Control devices. In particular, one extension module can help expand the AXC F 2152 controller, and two for AXC F 3152 controller.

The Ethernet Interface functionality is supported by the AXC F XT ETH 1TX extension module and having its own MAC address enables networks to be implemented such that they are completely physically separate from one another. The AXC F XT IB module as an Interbus master allows for the continued use of existing systems in Interbus-based applications. The AXC F XT PB module is a Profibus master, which exchanges data between DPV0 (Cyclic) and DPV1 (Acyclic) with up to 125 Profibus participants. Furthermore, as safety-oriented controls up to SIL 3, the AXC F XT SPLC 1000 and AXC F XT SPLC 3000 can be connected with a maximum of 32 or 300 Profisafe devices, respectively.

The standardized interface can also be used by third-party devices as the left-alignable modules communicate with the controller via PCIe and its configuration is consistent despite the various functions. The engineering section tests after a module is plugged in, whether the right firmware version was used, and an informative error message is issued if applicable. Thus, PLCnext Control is the perfect solution for almost any application with optional extension modules.
