Safety Comes First

Pick and Place Units

A Pick and Place (PnP) unit is an accessory for mechanical or other presses for loading flat blanks in tools. In press working, where secondary operation on flat blanks (typically weighing around 100 gm or less) like bending, lancing, and embossing is performed, a semi-skilled or skilled person does the loading and unloading of the parts. Typically, he performs at an output of 10-15 strokes per minute. Performing consistently at this rate is not easy for the operator. Another important aspect is the safety of this operation; the operation is monotonous and is extremely dangerous if a foot pedal actuation is used. A better option is using a two-hand push button for actuation, but there are cases where operators have bypassed this, leading to accidents. The PnP unit addresses productivity and safety issues, with 20-25 strokes per minute output.

Since PnP works in integration with an existing press, its control ensures the following sensing and related safety of the Press:
- Detection of double part on the die
- Detection of no part placement on the die
- Detection of double stroke of the Press
- Detection of no stroke of the Press
- Detection of knock-out malfunctioning.
