Zimmer Group Expands Global Footprint with a New Plant Near Pune

Pune, India - Zimmer Group has announced the opening of its newest production facility in Kikvi, near Pune, India. The opening ceremony, which will take place on April 16, 2024, symbolizes a decisive step in the company’s internationalization strategy and reflects its continuous growth.

The Indian subsidiary, which has been operating in Pune since 2017, has now become an integral pillar of Zimmer Group’s global initiative. “We have clear expansion plans for our subsidiary in India,” explains Achim Gauss, Managing Director, Zimmer Group GmbH. The opening of the new plant is an important milestone in this strategy.

In 2019, the Engineering Center was established as an extension of the Systems and Engineering Group at headquarters. The center has extensive expertise in mechanical engineering, software engineering, and PLC programming. A year later, the manufacturing division was launched, offering a wide range of system solutions to customers in India and across Asia. This led to the decision to build a new plant in India.

The new plant comprises a modern infrastructure with 17,000 sq ft of production space and an additional 10,000 sq ft of office space, built to the highest standards of environmental friendliness and sustainability. In addition to the use of solar energy, the introduction of recycling systems, and the minimization of paper consumption, the focus is on the aspect of expandability. The new plant will offer customized solutions and automation technology that meet Zimmer Group standards.

The facility will include a state-of-the-art quality control room, a fully equipped training and demonstration area, and a best-in-class design studio to support collaboration with the German headquarters. The local team is trained to Zimmer Group’s high training standards to ensure excellence and a spirit of innovation across national borders.

The global expansion enables the automation expert to open up new markets internationally and to support local customers faster and more effectively. With over 1,300 employees and 17 locations worldwide, the Zimmer Group is seizing the opportunity to create global synergies and achieve sustainable growth.
