San Sebastián, Spain – ADDIMAT, the Spanish Association for Additive Manufacturing, is proud to announce that its President, Virgilio García, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the European Additive Manufacturing Committee of CECIMO.
CECIMO is the European Association of Manufacturing Technologies, serving as the voice of the sector at the European and global levels. With a primary focus on machine tools and additive manufacturing technologies, CECIMO plays a leading role in representing Europe’s advanced manufacturing industries on the world stage—alongside other major industrial powers such as the United States and Asia. By bringing together national associations from across Europe, CECIMO advocates for the interests of the European manufacturing ecosystem and contributes actively to shaping a forward-looking and competitive industrial strategy. In Spain, AFM Cluster, under whose umbrella ADDIMAT operates, represents the country within this European network.
CECIMO has more than 50 years of history defending the interests of Machine Tool manufacturers, opened their strategy back in 2015 to give support to emerging industrial technologies such as AM, and created a dedicated division and team for this purpose.
The European Additive Manufacturing Committee, established in 2018 under the CECIMO umbrella, aims to accelerate the industrial adoption of additive manufacturing (AM) technologies across Europe. The group focuses on key areas critical to the successful industrialization of AM, including the development of an appropriate EU regulatory framework, skills and workforce development, international trade, and the collection and analysis of AM-specific data and statistics.
Since its creation, ADDIMAT has played an active role within this group, contributing to its strategic initiatives and development.
Throughout its trajectory, the Working Group has achieved several key milestones, including:
The association also extended its sincere gratitude to Stewart Lane, Corporate Manager at Renishaw, who has served with dedication and vision as Chairman of the Working Group since the very beginning. With this appointment, Virgilio García assumes leadership of the European Industrial Additive Manufacturing agenda, guiding its strategic direction and reinforcing efforts to drive the deployment of this key technology across sectors such as aerospace, healthcare, defence, automotive, energy, and many others.
