Manual Welding Reinvented with Fronius Velo

With Fronius Velo, the groundbreaking Velocity Assistant, the vision of manual MIG/MAG welding achieving flawless consistency of a robot yet retaining the adaptability and craftsmanship of a human welder is no longer a distant dream but a tangible reality.

Velo takes manual MIG/MAG welding to a new level by enabling assisted torch guidance and constant welding speed, resulting in perfect, reproducible weld seams with significantly reduced physical strain. Long welds demand precise torch control and consistent speed—requirements that remain challenging and exhausting even for experienced welders. This is exactly where Velo delivers a decisive advantage.

The Velo Advantage
For the first time, welding speed can be actively controlled during manual welding. Velo supports applications requiring long, uniform seams, such as commercial transportation, heavy-duty machinery, steel construction, and apparatus engineering. It is suitable for thin and thick sheet applications, welding steel, CrNi, and high-strength steels with equal precision.

At the heart of the system is a unique second wire—the Velo wire. Operating without an arc or additional shielding gas, it moves the torch forward through friction, determining welding speed while maintaining a constant contact-tip-to-work distance. The torch is gently ‘pushed’ along the seam without special seam preparation, adding only minimal filler material.

Velo benefits both beginners and professionals, enabling fast learning curves, reducing fatigue, and ensuring consistently high seam quality. Under suitable conditions, welding speeds comparable to robotic welding can be achieved—significantly boosting productivity.

Compatibility with Existing and New Fronius Systems
Velo is designed for quick and easy retrofitting to existing Fronius TPS/i systems (from 320A) and iWave Multiprocess PRO systems, without complex conversions. To get started, only the following components are required: wire feeder for the velo wire, suitable torch adapter with integrated velo wire feeding system, and corresponding software activation.

Along with retrofitting to the already available Fronius power sources (TPS/I and/or iWave Multiprocess), Fronius Velo is also compatible with the newly launched Fronius Fortis applicable to work for MIG/MAG, TIG, or MMA functions with maximum flexibility and practically for every application.

Designed for All Welding Positions
With 360° tool-free rotation, flexible handling, and activation directly on the torch, Velo is suitable for all welding positions—including 360° pipe welds and multi-layer applications. A five-meter wire feeding system ensures a large operating range and allows seamless switching between assisted and manual welding whenever required.
