PRECISION, AUTOMATION & INNOVATION

Dear Readers,

Manufacturing activities are evolving rapidly, driven by automation, digital technologies, precision engineering, and resilient supply chains. Across industries, manufacturers are increasingly investing in advanced manufacturing capabilities to improve quality, productivity, and global competitiveness.

Indian industries are on a strong growth trajectory, supported by sustained investments, policy reforms, infrastructure development, and surging domestic demand. As industries accelerate their adoption of smart manufacturing technologies, India’s business ecosystem is expected to gain prominence.

India’s machine tool industry in FY 2025-26 reflected this momentum with robust growth. Consumption grew by 15 percent to INR 36,419 crore (US$ 4.1 billion), while production surged by 19 percent to INR 17,387 crore (US$ 2 billion). Although imports grew by 16 percent to INR 21,628 crore (US$ 2.4 billion), machine tool exports from India during the period increased by 76 percent, totalling INR 2,596 crore (US$ 0.3 billion).

These figures reaffirm the machine tool industry’s significant role in enhancing India’s manufacturing competitiveness.

This edition of Modern Manufacturing India (MMI) focuses on Medical Machining, where precision, quality, reliability, and regulatory compliance are paramount. As the medical manufacturing sector advances, healthcare technologies, advanced machining solutions, automation, and digital manufacturing will play an increasingly important role in producing next-generation implants, surgical instruments, and high-precision medical components.

Automation is a key enabler of this transformation. Hence, to accelerate technology adoption, Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association (IMTMA) is hosting the ninth edition of the Symposium on Automation & Robotics. The event will be held from August 13–14, 2026, at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), Bengaluru.

Businesses, technology providers, and global experts will converge at the Symposium to explore practical automation solutions, robotics, artificial intelligence-driven manufacturing, and smart factory concepts shaping the future of manufacturing.

MMI will continue to provide industry perspectives, emerging trends, and technological developments to help manufacturers remain globally competitive. We thank our members, partners, contributors, and readers for their continued support.

Happy Reading.
