PHD Chamber Applauds PM’s Aim to Make India a Global Manufacturing Hub

New Delhi, India – PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) applauds the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s idea of establishing a robust manufacturing base in cooperation with all stakeholders, including the central/state government, the private sector, and CSOs, among others. On India  promoting ‘Make in India’ by increasing exports and domestic demand, Pradeep Multani, President, PHDCCI, said, “We appreciate Hon’ble PM’s emphasis on the presence of significant potential in India and his urge to the industry stakeholders to come out with ways to ensure effective utilization of the potential to achieve our growth goals. Hon’ble PM’s urge to the stakeholders to focus on building a robust manufacturing infrastructure to promote ‘Make in India’ and promote self-reliance, along with increasing self-reliance in raw material procurement, would go a long way to make India Aatmanirbhar in the coming times.”

PHD Chamber recognizes that ‘Make in India’ provides a limitless opportunity for Indian manufacturers to meet domestic demand while also meeting international quality standards. The Prime Minister’s focus on India’s abundant talent, skills, and resources will go a long way toward achieving self-reliance not only in the domestic market but also on the international level. Multani responded, stating, “We are confident that India has the true potential to become a leader in Electric vehicles, with a focus on quality and minimum dependency on foreign raw materials.”

In addition, the PHD Chamber supports the PM’s viewpoint on developing a strategic approach for achieving global standards to compete in the global market, studying international markets, identifying export destinations, and diversifying products. The Hon’ble Prime Minister suggested some significant resolutions for meeting India’s domestic objectives, such as how innovation in sectors will provide enormous benefits to the ‘Make in India Mission’. Multani added in this regard, “We are confident that the Private sector will focus more on R&D with ‘zero defect, zero effect’ because quality matters in a competitive world along with producing environmentally friendly products.”

Furthermore, PHD Chamber supports the idea of Common Branding, which involves both the public and commercial sectors in order to encourage Indian products in the Indian markets. Hon’ble Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal’s focus on quality standards, productivity, the National Single Window System, minimizing compliances and innovation, and R&D would boost India’s competitiveness not just at home but also abroad. Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog, believes that the manufacturing sector must prosper in order for the economy to grow holistically. Multani concluded, “We appreciate NITI Aayog view on the sunrise sector as a high utility sector of genomics, semiconductors, etc will be the key drivers in economic growth. PHD Chamber appreciates PM Gati Shakti initiatives which will play an important role to enhance infrastructure landscape, balancing export as well as domestic requirements through SEZ’s.”
