TRUMPF India Pvt Ltd marked a major milestone with the inauguration of its state-of-the-art 4,400 sq mt manufacturing facility in Nighoje, Pune, on August 6, 2025. In a seamless blend of local tradition and global ambition, the company set course to fully supply local-to-local for India and half of its future output to the Global South, spanning Asia, Africa, and Central and South America.
Commencing with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the event brought together industry leaders and veterans from the Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association (IMTMA), German Engineering Federation (VDMA), Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC), and leading companies such as Magod Group, Auto Mech Group, JBM Group, M M Industrial Controls, Alf Engineering, Unique Punch Systems, Kentex Engineering Works, and Suttati Enterprises Ltd, to mark this historic milestone.
The ceremony was led by Dr Stephan Mayer, Chief Executive Officer – Machine Tools and Member of the Managing Board, TRUMPF SE Co. KG; Till Kueppers, Chief Operating Officer, TRUMPF Machine Tools; and Pradeep Patil, Managing Director, TRUMPF India. The event also featured a traditional Pagdi Ceremony for the dignitaries and the unveiling of TRUMPF’s ‘Wall of Fame’, honoring the first 15 visionary customers whose orders will forever be part of the new facility’s early history. Also presented were an engaging lineup of insights, presentations, and a guided tour of the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.
A Historic Step
Welcoming the guests, Pradeep Patil described the day as “truly a proud and historic occasion”—a milestone for the Indian industrial ecosystem. He credited the achievement to the enduring trust of customers and partners, noting, “Their unwavering faith in TRUMPF has fueled our commitment to localize excellence and deepen our engagement with India’s vibrant industrial landscape.”
By blending advanced German engineering with deep integration into the Indian market, the company reinforces confidence in the talent, infrastructure, and industrial ecosystem of the country. |
He credited Dr Mayer’s leadership as the driving force behind the initiative. “During his visit in November 2022, Mayer made the bold decision to initiate hiring for this project. The decision became the catalyst that transformed vision into reality,” Patil noted. He also expressed heartfelt thanks to project colleagues from TRUMPF Germany, Austria, and China, and especially to Kueppers for steering the project over the past 18 months with “wisdom and energy”.
India’s Rise, TRUMPF’s Commitment
Acknowledging India’s potential, Dr Mayer remarked, “This moment marks not only a milestone for our company, but also a chapter of shared growth with this remarkable country.” Elaborating on India’s growing impact on the global economy, he noted, “Over the last 25 years, India has risen in the global GDP rankings from 13th to 4th place, recently overtaking Japan. I believe that before 2030, India will surpass Germany to claim the third spot—behind only the US and China.”
For Dr Mayer, India—a powerhouse of ideas—has emerged as one of the most attractive destinations for German companies. “The brilliance of its young talent, multilingual capabilities, and vibrant demographics—home to the youngest population in the world—paint a compelling picture of long-term economic strength and innovation,” he said.
From Two Employees to a Global Hub
TRUMPF’s India journey began in 2006 with just two employees in Pune. Today, it spans showrooms and service hubs in Bengaluru and Delhi, along with a software competence center in Chennai—now the global hub for CAD/CAM software for cutting machines and for Lantek, the multi-brand sheet metal software provider. The company now employs over 230 people, including 70 software developers in Chennai. With the new Pune facility, India has evolved into a full-fledged TRUMPF hub for sales, service, software development, and assembly.
What the Plant Will Do
The inauguration signifies more than just bricks and machinery; it advances TRUMPF’s vision of bringing India closer than ever to its global operations. “We are here not just to build machines, but to build futures—hand in hand with you,” stated CEO Dr Mayer. “Initially, we will focus on manufacturing our new TruBend 1000 at this plant. While we will begin with material supplies from Europe and China, we will gradually localize more components to strengthen our local supply chain. The next step will be laser cutting machines.”
While the company starts with providing machines to the Indian market, Dr Mayer revealed, “We will prepare to also become capable of exporting the machines to the global South including Central and South America, Asia, and Africa. We’re extremely excited to see how TRUMPF India is going to develop itself from a sales market to a supplier for the world.” The strategy includes achieving 100 percent local-to-local supply for India, allocating 50 percent of future output to the Global South, and delivering a combined 200 units of TruBend and TruLaser 1000 series machines by 2027–28.
Driving Digital and AI Integration
Highlighting the pivotal role of digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping future growth, Dr Mayer remarked, “The fastest machine does not help if it waits for a spare part or a service technician. By connecting the machines to the service network, data can be analyzed to find problems, even before they stop the machine. The digital journey has just begun, and India is becoming a dominant player in AI. We’re proud to be part of this journey—developed in India, produced in India, and finally used by our customers—here in India!”
A Global Vision with Local Roots
The ceremony underscored TRUMPF’s ‘Think Global… Be Local’ philosophy that strongly resonated throughout the day’s knowledge exchanges. By blending advanced German engineering with deep integration into the Indian market, the company reinforces confidence in the talent, infrastructure, and industrial ecosystem of the country.

As Pradeep Patil summed up, “This milestone is not only a landmark for TRUMPF India; it’s a resounding step forward for the country’s industrial ecosystem and a tribute to our shared values of innovation, partnership, and resilience.”
